Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson
Begged for stronger animal cruelty laws — refuses to enforce them
- Clark County District Attorney since 2012
- Publicly lobbied Carson City for tougher animal cruelty penalties
- Routinely pleads down or declines to prosecute animal cruelty cases
He asked for the law. We delivered. Now he won't use it.
Steve Wolfson stood in front of cameras and lawmakers begging Carson City to strengthen Nevada's animal cruelty statutes. Advocates, volunteers, and grieving pet owners fought tooth and nail to get Reba's Law (AB381) across the finish line — a hard‑won victory designed to give prosecutors like Wolfson the teeth they said they needed.
And yet, case after case, his office has pled down felony animal cruelty charges to misdemeanors, accepted no‑jail plea deals for offenders who tortured, starved, or killed animals, and in some instances declined to prosecute altogether. Cases that should have been the first real tests of Reba's Law have quietly been swept aside, leaving abusers free and victims without justice.
If you begged and pleaded for the law, why won't you enforce it now that we fought so hard and got Reba's Law passed? Nevada's animals don't need another press conference. They need a District Attorney who will actually prosecute the people who hurt them.
Steve Wolfson asked for the tools. We handed them to him. He refuses to use them. That is a choice — and voters deserve to know it.
Hold him accountable. Demand that every animal cruelty case in Clark County be charged to the full extent of Reba's Law — not quietly bargained away behind closed doors. He is up for reelection this year and it's time we send his ass packing! DO NOT let Plea Bargain Steve sit in his office for another term, allowing scumbags to continue hurting or killing our fur babies and then get away with it!
