Despite overwhelming support for animal welfare, certain lawmakers, particularly Nevada Assemblypersons Brittney Miller and Elaine Marzola, have taken steps that threaten our pets' safety. The rejection of Reba’s Law, also known as AB381, is deeply disheartening. This proposed legislation aimed to provide crucial protections for animals, yet it has been coldly dismissed. This situation highlights a troubling truth: we are letting down those who cannot speak for themselves.
Reba’s Law was designed to implement vital protections for animals in our state. With support from animal lovers and veterinary professionals, it recognized the trust we place in our pets and aimed to shield them from cruelty and neglect. For example, similar laws in California have shown a significant reduction in animal abuse cases, decreasing by nearly 30% over three years.
