The Las Vegas City Council, including Knudsen voted against an ordinance proposed by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman to form a citizens’ advisory committee to meet quarterly to discuss animal welfare issues and report possible solutions to the council.
Local governments have augmented funding for TAF in recent years, as the animal overpopulation crisis worsens. Rescue organizations, however, have not benefited.
Councilman Brian Knudsen, who opposed the formation of an animal advisory committee, said in his experience, advisory committee members “struggle with agenda items to come up with. They struggle with connecting with me.” In a statement Knudsen said the proposed committee “is an additional layer of government bureaucracy and I believe it is more efficient to work with your elected representative directly as opposed to another government-funded committee.”
